My father chopped up wood on this setup - John Deere Model B with buzz saw.
Sometimes people trip and fall down stairs.
Sometimes assholes push people down stairs.
That doesn't mean "stairs are bad" nor does it make someone who pushes someone down the stairs any less of an asshole.

Presumably you've got to leave the wood out so that the sub-freezing temps can make it more brittle, no?
Neat splitting technique but you won't find a native Colorado tree that will split like that.
Drooling over that log cutter-splitter attachment for the skid loader. I could use one of those.
I could probably get access to something similar to this...for $150 an hour.

My seasoned lodgepoles pop just like that, but it has to be very dry. "Kinda dry" takes a few swings.
But in general, even if it takes a few swings, not having to bend over repeatedly (insert joke here), is great. Then not having to gather all the chunks and stack each individually...awesome. my 9 year old would love that part. I may try this on logs over maybe 12" diameter. Smaller than that it's not worth it.
