The barn fire in Erie last week that destroyed about 70 classic cars was likely started by a gas leak and did over $5 million in damage, according to Mountain View Fire Rescue.
The fire was reported about 9:10 a.m. Oct. 8 at 3163 Lowell Lane in Weld County, just north of Broomfield and east of Erie. A tenant on the property was working on a car when he heard an explosion and ran outside of the garage to see a nearby mobile home in flames. The fire quickly spread to the barn -- described as a former chicken house -- which was being used to store cars, including about 39 vintage vehicles.
Officials estimated about 70 cars were damaged by the fire, while eight were saved.
Investigators now say the fire was likely started by a gas leak on the property, but said the cause of the gas leak has not been found and the official cause of the fire remains undetermined.
Two private insurance investigators working on the incident said the total loss from the fire was over $5 million. Mountain View Fire sent four fire engines, one ambulance and a water tender truck to the scene, and North Metro Fire sent two ladder trucks, three fire engines and two ambulances, according to the joint press release from North Metro and Mountain View. Lafayette Fire sent one fire engine, Brighton Fire sent a water tender truck, and Frederick-Firestone Fire sent another ambulance.

Well... with two insurance investigators on scene as the building is burning, and them stating over 5 million in loss.... I would assume so.
At over $71,000 per car, that's gotta beat the hell out of CL.
