Any GM employees that can get parts?

I am looking at adding remote start to my truck and need a price on a part number (GM #17801236). Amazon has is for $200. Also, my ECM will need to be flashed so I am hoping someone on here might have access to a Tech II and do that for me for some cash.

Most TechII diagnostic scanners are not owned by technicians. Most are owned by the GM dealer. Also, reprogramming needs to be done at the dealer when using a TechII. GM software is uploaded into the TechII, then it is downloaded into the vehicle. VIN and software compatibility needs to be verified before the program will download into the vehicle.

You might be better off with a correctly installed aftermarket remote start.

i know plenty of shops that own Tech II scanners that aren't GM dealers. If you want a small shop to survive it is almost needed. I see no benefit in installing an aftermarket one when my truck when it already has the remote start prep package. All I need is the remote start kit (fobs, module and a flash). I can't see how an aftermarket one would be better or cheaper.

I have worked in only independent shops except a GM dealership. A techII is for GM vehicles only. I own a Snap-On Solus scanner, which will scan all makes. Why would an independent shop own a scanner for one brand of vehicle? I have never seen a techII outside of GM dealers.

Just thought I would put my 2 cents in. Now I know you only want OEM stuff, and will probably spend more to get it. Good luck with your quest.

The shop I worked at owns a Tech II and a Solus. You can make a lot of money being able to do everything the dealer can for less. Don't take my words offensively as I appreciate your feedback. They also own a Solus as well. Once word got around that we could do everything a dealer could with a Tech II, it was an easy sell. Most places charge $100 for a flash and the OEM remote start kit is $200. $300 for OEM remote start seems cheaper than getting one at car toys but I haven't looked.

I wanted an OEM remote start because the aftermarket usually sucks. I was going to do a factory remote start last year and the dealer really gummed up my appointment. Getting colder so I was gonna do it last week. The part was dicontinued. Found this on youtube. You have to buy it from a dealer that can flash it for your truck, but it is the easiest thing I have ever installed. 100 bucks from a guy on ebay. Easy to reverse. No dealer shenanagans. I know yours isnt a Dodge but these can be programmed for lots of vehicles.

Just go to car toys and have them INSTALL a remote start for under the price you pay on amazon.
