i know plenty of shops that own Tech II scanners that aren't GM dealers. If you want a small shop to survive it is almost needed. I see no benefit in installing an aftermarket one when my truck when it already has the remote start prep package. All I need is the remote start kit (fobs, module and a flash). I can't see how an aftermarket one would be better or cheaper.
