Default Upper Receiver vice block suggestions?

Installing a barrel onto a billet upper (JBO Spartan) and need a method of holding this thing down. Cant afford a reaction rod for my uses, but definitely need a solution.
Anyone have experience with something like this, or another recommendation?

Borrow a reaction rod, or sell the upper and get one that fits the standard uppers.

I just installed a barrel and rail on a MUR... Just used a standard vice block, tightened it down a good bit in the vice and bent the block around it, and went at it. It turned back and forth a little in the block, maybe 20*, until the rail stopped it in either direction. I figured wrist case I'd break the vice block, but it worked out ok.

WADR, I would skip post #3. The whole point of the block is to distribute the stresses so you do not bend the aluminum. Making do is a good way to jack up a receiver.

So, I don't know anyone with a reaction rod or similar and I prefer to not borrow tools from those I don't know well, that's out.
This is a build with a nicely matching billet lower. They're going together.

The Army tech manual TM 9-1005-319-23&P has it done by clamping the barrel, not the receiver. That might be an easier way to do it.

Logistics suck for me. I don't have a good time to meet any of the guys that have offered assistance (Thanks again!).
I really need an affordable tool I can use at home. I may have to piss off the accountant and get the Brownells version of the reaction rod if I cant find something more affordable.
