Disclaimer: I didn't watch the video, what's the point?
I was once told by a former NYC resident when I was wearing an outfit bought by my girlfriend at the time (who is now my wife) that "if I ditched the shirt, and just wore those pants and that vest in the city, every man woman and child would be after me" He was as queer as the day is long, so I'm assuming that It'd be mostly men with that reaction, probably in Greenwich Village... That was 25 years ago... so in places like that, flaunt it and they'll assume you want the attention..
stupid is as stupid does.

"I have to return some video tapes"
I watched it. I thought most were lousy pickup lines, not harassment. But even if they were, she's walking through NYC for 10 hours, clearly with the intent of recording "harassment" on tape. That's like trying to find a plastic bag at a dump, not very difficult.
Would I speak like that to a woman? No. Do I think it's appropriate speech? No. But do I think it was harassment? No (with a few exceptions, like phone guy).
75% of what happened to that woman was not harassment, if you think otherwise then don't be such a sensitive, whiney bitch and go hide from any social interaction. Young men are horny dogs (for the most part- generalizing here). A semi attractive woman walks the mean streets of any urban center for 10 hours (this is called trolling) and she's going to get hit on, complimented, crept on, and whistled at. Did some of you forget this was in NYC? These are the same people who voted for Obama, Cuomo, Bloomberg, Clinton. If she had done the same in rural TX or WY she probably would have been pissed about the cordial and friendly 'Hello's' she received. That's trolling folks; if you spend enough time sifting, trying, experimenting, etc you're going to eventually prove the biased point you set out to prove.

Cuts both ways Grey, women don't have a monopoly on discrimination, harassment or persecution. I can't even keep count the number of the times I've held a door, offered assistance with a heavy package, picked up a dropped item, offered my seat or most any respectful act I was raised with for a female and received a harsh comment for the courtesy or as with this women, disdainfully ignored, in my experience men just say "thanks". Or the innumerable times I've been insulted for nothing more than being a man and a handy target for some women's bad mood or perpetually persecuted and condescending attitude. I'm not an intimidating looking guy and I certainly treat everyone male or female with respect and courtesy, I don't deserve that crap either. A kinder, gentler society is a lofty goal but it's not what we have and a one-sided back-handed generalization of men as borderline sexual predators is unrealistic, unfair, unhelpful and candidly insulting. I'm fed up to my eyes with the continuous attacks against middle aged white guys, the unfounded characterizations as misogynistic, predatory, opportunists. The cherry picked statistics, the ridiculous accusations, the offensive generalizations and the shrieks for equality that translate to demands for special treatment.
Upset about what clothing is available in the store you shop at? How in good conscience could that be blamed on me or men in general? Don't women dominate the fashion industry? Are there rude men out there? Of course there are, women too; murderers, rapists, thieves and all manner of scumbags and deviants of both sexes and (what's the count now?) 57 genders? I'm just as fed up as you are with the symptoms of the declining morals in our society but women contribute to it in equal measure with men. A fair documentary and something I could support would show how pervasive such behavior is in today's society not a biased hit piece on how slimy men are and how poor persecuted women suffer the slings and arrows. I take offense to the assertion my "good 'ol boy" attitude has any bearing at all in refusing to watch yet another feminist attack against all men as though it were any less irrelevant than Andrew Dice Clay.
Imagine all women were my wife, mother or sister? How many of them would you speculate are deserving of that respect? Do you perceive all friendly gestures from strange men as you would from your father, husband or brother? I'd venture I'm a damn sight more respectful and assume less implied affront then the average female. I welcome women everywhere but they don't get a pass for bad behavior because they've experienced bad behavior, unwelcome advances, discrimination, persecution or fear, we all have stories to tell. Just because most men don't fear being raped on the sidewalk by some random pervert in no way lessens the impact of their negative experience, women don't typically fear being beaten to death by four guys in a parking lot with baseball bats for "looking at my women" either, different but the same.
I'm sure you're a very nice person, so am I but just as your experience makes you sensitive to the topic, mine does as well. This is symptomatic of our society brought on by Liberal Progressive anything goes so long as I like it mindset, not exclusive to men. What you perceive as "asshole remarks" I perceive as the same angst you communicate, two sides of the same coin. My apologies if you took offense to my comment however I perceive it no differently than the implicit "Hey baby, Wanna f-?" read into every "hello" or kind gesture. Cuts both ways.
Stopped reading right here. I didn't suggest she was asking to be raped. Nor was she raped. Nor was any danger of rape present. Or implied. Or at all relevant to the conversation.
The fact of the matter is that she does have the ability to not wear form-fitting clothing, and she does have the ability to not intentionally spend most of the time around 125th and 7th. Furthermore, I get "harassed" by the homeless whenever I go downtown. If I'm walking around dressed well, I can't act shocked that a hobo sees me as someone who will potentially have money to give. If it's that big of a problem, maybe I should take steps to not encourage the behavior (or better yet avoid the situation all-together).
And I will stress for a third time that she wasn't "walking around Manhattan". She was very sneaky in starting the video in the financial district, then immediately cutting away. She then walks around Harlem until it gets dark (convenient), then heads to Times Square where street peddlers and hobos congregate to try to get money from well-off people. She knew she could get attention from a similar crowd while maintaining safety by being in a crowded public area. I'd love to see how uneventful this video would be if she walked around Soho or the village.
If she was a real NYC woman and felt harassed by someone. She would have turned to them and yelled WHAT'S YOUR FUCKIN PROBLEM? Get lost or i'm calling the cops after i kick you in the balls.
She was trolling for the responses she sought . I'd say that area was somewhat more latino & black than anglo, however that would make me a racist in her eyes. Just one more thing to justify her agenda.
IF WE (generalization of the board) didn't accept women. I doubt you would have received the welcome you did, as well as the interaction in the PWT, GD and other forums you have posted. IIRC there has been no personal attacks or blatant derogatory sexist comments towards you. IF there had been, i doubt that Former board member would still be here.
