Alcohol doesn't work well. Lighter fluid works well. DO NOT USE WHITE GAS. I had a long post of this, but it may have been lost over the years.

Makes sense. You don't re-use candle wicks. Also good to know. Damn chipmunks keep tearing up my friggin insulation anyway, so there's plenty of scraps around.

I was thinking putting a few in a ziplock in the BOB with a bottle of HEET. Would be good in a pinch if you need it.

Picked up a Crossman pellet pistol for that very same reason. That and some poison liberally spread under the house seems to be curing the problem.

We used to make smudge pots with tuna cans. Loosely roll up cardboard strips and stuff into tuna cans and pour some paraffin in to soak. Not the cleanest burn but they last a while.
