Let me speculate and paint a scenario from the deceased criminal's perspective:

Lady has a gun pointed at me. She is jabbering about something. Bet it isn't loaded. BANG! Bet she doesn't have another round in the chamber. BANG! Damn, I'm falling out of the window. She shot me. I'm going to sue that puta! Damn, that's a lot of blood. Is it just me or is it getting darker out here. I'm feeling sleepy, and kinda dizzy. That hurt.
