ROE #15 says throwing water bottles is "minor".

It will be interesting (more likely disgusting) to see how the press handles this mess on Monday.

I didn't take your post that way, but Hound doesn't seem to think having bottles thrown at you is any big deal. If anyone, especially a large mob of folks, begins throwing bottles at me or my family, I'm using whatever level of force is necessary to stop the threat...

I knew a runner who was jogging down a country road, and some a-holes drove by and chucked an unopened [glass] snapple bottle at his back. It cracked a vertebrae or two.

How long did it take him to recover?

Having cracked a vertebrae at 18, now at retirement age, he will be lucky if it only bothers him part of the time for the rest of his life.

Sounds like serious bodily injury to me.

I like that one also. Force a cop to try to identify what an object is flying towards his head so he can know how to respond. They're probably mostly talking about after the fact but even then, that's ridiculous.

I imagine a roll or toilet paper and a chunk of cement look a lot alike in the dark and in the smoke.

Folks... I am assuming that you guys can read, it is not apparent from many of the responses. Everybody has been going to a glass bottle and yet the (as has been pointed out by a mod) requests stated a plastic bottle. I never mentioned glass in any statement, did not think I needed to. It is apparent that this is a sounding room of Barney Fifes with a "Whaooo is me", 'they' are all bad people, "Ya gotta nip it in the bud"...Thin blue line of solidarity. Many of your statements on here show why people should be afraid of the cops instead supporting them. It makes it harder for the good cops out there that deserve the communities support. This 'Brown' incident is not an isolated occurrence, it is just the one with the spot light for now. The fear you show of a job you obviously picked shows you picked poorly. I hope you find something you are better suited for. Protecting the community does not seem a natural fit. Instead of trying to understand the reasons people are upset, you want to meet one expected wrong with a worse "shock and awe" wrong. For the record... a glass bottle is not equivalent to a gun even if both can do harm. By that reasoning ANYTHING in the hands of a non-cop gives a cop the right to beat up or even shoot somebody and that is not 'OK'. I don't agree with this idea "If your not Cop you'er little people". As previously stated, if somebody is actually doing something wrong..... arrest them. Don't beat them up and think you are any better than those you expect to be "thugs" or wonder why the rest of the already agitated crowd retaliates. Nowhere does it state in their request that they condone a 'riot' or 'looting'. It is a tense environment and they don't want a minor infraction to turn into the original police response. They arrested a woman for simply falling down for Christ's sake!!! Cops should be safe but instead of the Barney approach (that failed horribly the first time) this is trying to have the Andy Griffith approach of de-escalation. That is not a bad thing.

Now....Let the Barney's come out with their BS.........
