You're only 20 posts new but obviously understand what's going on in Ferguson already.

The police are under obligation to preserve the peace of the community as a whole, not pander to the demands of those anticipating the commission of crimes in the name of protest. Anyone who has ever been HIT with a thrown bottle (11 stitches, thank you very much) would not call that a "minor issue", they would call it "assault with a deadly weapon". I support the right of the people of Ferguson to assemble and protest, but issuing a list of demands that amount to telling the police to sit on their hands while they burn the fucking city to the ground is ridiculous. If they want to riot, burn and loot, they should expect to be treated as rioters, arsonists, and looters. Arson, BTW, is one of only a few crimes that justify the use of deadly force in Colorado in defense of another(dunno about MO).

Exactly. Happened to me in 95(?) during a Phish concert riot in Morrison. I was wearing a helmet and it still rung my bell but good. If you've never experienced it, trust me...you don't want to. Of course, pissing and moaning about how much the police suck from the safety of your keyboard is pretty harrowing, too.

I believe or (IMO) the fine people of ferguson had already demonstrated their willingness to assemble and act in a peaceful manner.

Their list of demands show how much they are Once Again willing to Obey the law. On their terms and their version of peace. FUCK THEM. Strong letter to follow

    Bring out the scoops!

Do you know the secret about Soylent Green?

Seriously, they already have ground rules. We call them laws and ordinances. Most jurisdictions require permits before any road closures or large gatherings to ensure proper public safety like porta-johns and clean up is taken care of afterwards. If people in Ferguson would like to demonstrate, they can do so within the law or practice civil disobedience. If they go the civil disobedience route, they can have attorneys standing by and they can make bail like anyone else if the court sets bail. If people become violent, they can expect the response to be force up to the level necessary to keep the peace and end the violence.

    Is this new to anyone?

Win! Most folks would be surprised how much you are still able to feel underneath a riot helmet...
