Default What's wrong with this email I just got?

    Parents,
Just prior to 8 a.m. today, Thursday, November 20, a parent of a high school student reported that his/her child was upset and made statements indicating a threat directed to the school environment.

Within minutes of the report, School Resource Officer/Gilpin County Deputy Lee Ramsey made immediate contact with the student. Deputy Ramsey took the student into custody. The student did not possess any type of weapon. Other deputies assisted Deputy Ramsey by transporting the student to the Gilpin County Justice Center.

The threat was general and unspecified. The student was in custody within minutes after arriving at school. Students or staff were not in danger. School went into session at  8 a.m. and the school day progressed as regularly scheduled.

    Thanks,

    David S. MacKenzie, Ph.D.
    Superintendent of Schools
    Gilpin County School District RE-1

Parents letting the school district parent for them...

Also the Deputy dogpile over one kid.
To question your government is not unpatriotic — to not question your government is unpatriotic.

Good people do not need laws to tell them to act responsibly, while bad people will find a way around the laws.

    But, it's for the children!

Once in school the school has guardianship over the student[s]. Been there with the education system, done that. Thankfully our daughter has been free of the public skol system for over a decade. How you folks with kids in school manage, without grabbing an educator by the neck and punching the stupidity out of them is a lot better than i'd be. Although the 1 or 2 i may have acquired a grip on their windpipe never said anything, lucky them, and me.

I wonder how much we'll see of this after the backlash on Arapahoe's slip ups. "Better safe than sorry", right?

My boys are 3 weeks and 18 months old. So far we have private school in the forecast. If our financial situation can accommodate it, home school is looking better and better. Every time I see things like this, I dread the thought of my boys starting school.

Not well thought out for sure.

"Within minutes" and "immediate" are used to describe the same action, and it can not be so. The student does not appear to have been questioned nor any threat assessment conducted prior to being placed in custody. If no-one was ever in danger, why was someone taken into custody? WHY on earth would a parent let a child go to school if they believed them to be a threat?

That said, we do not know the details, so we are all just making stuff up based on an administrators response to something we really don't have any clue about.
