Parents,
Just prior to 8 a.m. today, Thursday, November 20, a parent of a high school student reported that his/her child was upset and made statements indicating a threat directed to the school environment.
Within minutes of the report, School Resource Officer/Gilpin County Deputy Lee Ramsey made immediate contact with the student. Deputy Ramsey took the student into custody. The student did not possess any type of weapon. Other deputies assisted Deputy Ramsey by transporting the student to the Gilpin County Justice Center.
The threat was general and unspecified. The student was in custody within minutes after arriving at school. Students or staff were not in danger. School went into session at 8 a.m. and the school day progressed as regularly scheduled.
Thanks,
David S. MacKenzie, Ph.D.
