In addition to where, what do folks feel is the smartest suppressor caliber to buy first? I'd like to eventually suppress .45, 9mm, .22lr and .223/5.56... are 147gr 9mm loads through a .45 suppressor at all dampened?
If I was to start over... I'd get a take apart 22, a 45 can for the pistols/subguns and a good 30cal can.

That'll cover pretty much anything you'd want to shoot. The difference between the dedicated cans and something like a 9mm out of a 45 can is negligible.

Plus, all your cans will multiply anyway, you'll have one in every caliber....

Give SIlent Precision another shot. Chris is a good dude, I've worked with him a lot.

There are several of us on the board who are at-home FFLs who handle suppressors. Drawback for most of us would be we usually don't carry a lot of inventory if you're a touchy kind of guy, but it might be a benefit to use a home-based guy if you know one of us, or live nearby, etc. But we're often better looking, and you'd get the same benefits as you would using a "normal" FFL over the big shops.

As for up North, I haven't been to Jensens in a long time, but I would drop in and check in on Bear Arms and Trigger Time for sure.

If you're buying online, there is silencershop and then everybody else. Doesn't mean they're the best, but they have a great online site.

Now as for cans... of course everybody is different, but unless you have specific goals, I'd do this:

    1) Get a 22lr can. Take-apart doesn't matter for most cans, but it does matter for 22lr so you can clean it. High-end cans like the Sparrow are amazing, but even a cheapo 22lr can will be super fun and a lot of people will never notice the difference. These are too cheap to wait. Get one on right away. Depending on what gun you have, you may need to thread it or get an adapter or something. Seriously, don't think about it too hard, just get it done. 22lr cans are quieter than an air gun.

    2) Get a can for your AR15. 50/50 option here on whether you should get a 308 can that can do dual duty or not. If you have or will get a 308 ar-10, then probably get a 308 can that you can shoot both through. Otherwise .223 is a good choice. There's a lot of options for mounting here, but you want a quick-detach for an AR platform. We could start an entire thread talking about options for the 223/308 AR platform. But get a can for your AR. It's awesome, and once you have one, you won't shoot without it.

3a) If you are a long-range guy, pick up a thread-on long-range can in your preferred caliber. Again, there are a lot of options here, depending on what you want to do. TBAC/Thunderbeast is one option - they are semi-local and popular with the LR crowd.

3b) If you're more of a pistol guy, get a pistol can instead. There are two ways to go - if you shoot a lot of different guns, get 45acp can that you can move between platforms. Otherwise, if you're mostly a 9mm guy, get a 9mm can. If you'll ever get into subguns or a 9mm AR, keep that in mind when you're looking at mounting options.

If money is tight and you want to minimize what you buy, I would get a 22lr, a 308 QD for your AR, a 45acp for your pistols and a LR can in a big caliber for your LR gun. Otherwise, come be stupid like the rest of us and have a whole pile of the dang things, so you can dedicate them to a particular gun.

Suppressors are awesome. Come drink the Kool-Aid.

By the way, your avatar is distracting.
Every darn time I'm scrolling through a thread, it "pops" out and I lose my place.

Check out Cherokee Gun out of GA. Found them on another forum http://www.theoutdoorstrader.com and they kicked everyone's ass on the AAC damn the man promo cans. I'd like to spend local, but nobody could come anywhere close to their price even factoring shipping and xfr fee, and they beat silencershop by a mile too.

This is the longer version and I agree..... With almost everything. It is a personal choice on how you want to go but personally I am not a big fan of the QD's for suppressors. The added cost of the muzzle brake and limited interchangeability, I like standard threaded. With a threaded suppressor, I can throw my can on a friends or any other threaded barrel with ease not having to buy/bring another muzzle brake. Technically you could do this with the QD muzzle brake but you won't. Again, not saying Brian is wrong on this but going QD is a decision based on how you would like to run. The rest is spot on. Yes.... Yesssss my friend, come in and drink the Kool-Aid it tastes wonderful.

Thanks so much for all the great info.

To answer a few of your questions...
Money is tight so price is definitely a factor. Thus a rifle can will have to suffice for now.
    I going with a 30 cal can.
The host's will be a 300BLK pistol, Sig 516 5.56, and more than likely another 5.56 shorty at some point. I've got a couple ak's that would probably like to play as well.

Bang for the buck, I'm looking at the YHM Phantom M2 (stainless) with QD. They did quite well in some video's I've seen.
If I weren't pinching cash to get this done, I'd probably go with Thunderbeast, or the Specwar as it's my understanding that both are tanks.
I always thought that if I were to get a can it would be the SDN6. But with the hit and miss on whether or not they lock up tight, I'm just not feeling the love anymore. Especially if I can snatch up a can that will foot the bill at 2/3 the cost.

In the end, I'm sure all will work for what I need them to do. It seems like every time I'm ready to pull the trigger on one, something comes up and it goes on the back burner. I've had a trust in place for over a year and no NFA on it. It's time to get something done.

If I was looking for a can I would call Coloradohack from the board. It seems he has good supply lines, great pricing, knows his stuff, and easy to work with. He has a spot in the Industry Partners section, DangerLee Industries.

Good luck and welcome to the fun crowd. You might also look at Machine Gun Tours or Firing Line if you get into town.
