As for up North, I haven't been to Jensens in a long time, but I would drop in and check in on Bear Arms and Trigger Time for sure.
If you're buying online, there is silencershop and then everybody else. Doesn't mean they're the best, but they have a great online site.
Now as for cans... of course everybody is different, but unless you have specific goals, I'd do this:
1) Get a 22lr can. Take-apart doesn't matter for most cans, but it does matter for 22lr so you can clean it. High-end cans like the Sparrow are amazing, but even a cheapo 22lr can will be super fun and a lot of people will never notice the difference. These are too cheap to wait. Get one on right away. Depending on what gun you have, you may need to thread it or get an adapter or something. Seriously, don't think about it too hard, just get it done. 22lr cans are quieter than an air gun.
2) Get a can for your AR15. 50/50 option here on whether you should get a 308 can that can do dual duty or not. If you have or will get a 308 ar-10, then probably get a 308 can that you can shoot both through. Otherwise .223 is a good choice. There's a lot of options for mounting here, but you want a quick-detach for an AR platform. We could start an entire thread talking about options for the 223/308 AR platform. But get a can for your AR. It's awesome, and once you have one, you won't shoot without it.
3a) If you are a long-range guy, pick up a thread-on long-range can in your preferred caliber. Again, there are a lot of options here, depending on what you want to do. TBAC/Thunderbeast is one option - they are semi-local and popular with the LR crowd.
3b) If you're more of a pistol guy, get a pistol can instead. There are two ways to go - if you shoot a lot of different guns, get 45acp can that you can move between platforms. Otherwise, if you're mostly a 9mm guy, get a 9mm can. If you'll ever get into subguns or a 9mm AR, keep that in mind when you're looking at mounting options.
If money is tight and you want to minimize what you buy, I would get a 22lr, a 308 QD for your AR, a 45acp for your pistols and a LR can in a big caliber for your LR gun. Otherwise, come be stupid like the rest of us and have a whole pile of the dang things, so you can dedicate them to a particular gun.
Suppressors are awesome. Come drink the Kool-Aid.
