There were talking heads on TV this weekend all talking about the implications of both a indictment and a failure to indict (no-bill). The activists people all talked about how this would be a gross injustice if the officer was not indicted, and the LE people said basically the same if the officer was indicted. It really highlighted the sentiment that many of the activists have about law enforcement in this country, that there is this crazy expectation that if you wear a badge then you are expected to tolerate being beaten and assaulted, that it somehow comes with the job.

"Hey, they volunteered to do that job, and get paid damn well to do it too, so hell yea they should expect to get an ass whopping every now an then, doesn't mean they have the right to murder people over it"

And this is what the bottom line is on this one folks. Anarchy is only a few hours away for this small town.

I'll make an effort to avoid major cities for a while after this verdict. Spillover may not happen but I dont want to take my chances.

Your assessment of this attitude is spot-on. It really is sickening. Whether cops take a whooping every once in a while in the line of duty or not is really irrelevant though: people will be mad about it either way.
