GK and 68 are on to something there. once a struggle starts, everybody starts grabbing for the gun. push the slide far enough out of battery and it won't go bang. Not a Sig guy myself but I think the Sig DA/SA actually was a benefit. Pull the trigger on striker fired weapon and you'll have to rack the slide but a DA/SA you can just keep pulling the trigger to get that same 'reset' and probably why he got more than one shot off in the car.
Correct me if I'm wrong though. (also, haven't read the article yet)
ETA: went back and read the article quickly. I could be wrong about the da/sa vs striker fired issue. However, close quarters shooting like that can cause issues if the slide contacts something while cycling and doesn't fully cycle and stays out of battery after the fact.
in my prior LEO time, we went over an officer involved shooting where perp charged officer, officer got off a few shots but the perp made body contact with the officer and gun causing an out of battery problem (glock). gun would not fire again but at this point it was a non-issue as the perp was then feeling the effects of being killed a few seconds prior but he just didn't know it right away.

It's a semi-accurate account.
Liberals never met a slippery slope they didn't grease.

I wish technology solved people issues. It seems to just reveal them.
