    So Comcast sends you a new modem/router unit that allocates part of your bandwidth to an open WiFi hot spot, and then charges you a monthly rental fee for the equipment?

    That sound about right?

    You can have it disabled. My account>users and prefernces>manage xfinity wifi

    Again, it should not impact your speeds since the modem uses a separate set of downstream and upstream carriers for the public end.
