SIG SWAT P556 "PISTOL" Issue

Bought a used SIG SWAT P556 a few days ago. Gun looks to be in great shape. However, when you lock the bolt back the bolt is actually to far forward and sitting partially over the round. Thus, it can't pick it up. If you grab the charging handle and manually pull it back and release it will load up and run. It's a 2009 build. I see nothing obvious inside that appears to be a problem. Anyone have any knowledge on this. Would rather not send it off to SIG for a simple fix if it happens to be a simple fix. Read some info indicated that SIG changed the bolt carrier a few years ago as they were having a problem with the bolt carrier hitting the receiver. SIG modified the receiver back then and solved the problem. This would be verified by visible wear on the bolt carrier along the front/left undersurface where it would rub the trunion. Any info offered appreciated. I know there are good smiths on here and gladly have this worked on if needed. I like the gun if she was not sick.

I'd contact the seller and ask him what he did when the situation you described occurred.

this was a consignment and the gun store is aware. Not sure if he will reveal the owner or not but I'm betting he new of the problem and that is why he sold the gun. I'll ask when they open tomorrow mid day. They were closed today. I called SIG and they of course do not warranty a used 2nd hand gun. I have no problem with the money it will cost but I'm sure someone can lead me right to the problem. If it's just parts I can do that. If it's real work I'll be glad to hire the right guy. I'd love to fix it myself though.

I know the owner and only met them about four months ago. So, this is a first to be in a situation to have bought a gun off consignment which happens to be problematic. Hoping that he would feel compelled to have this took care of. Not sure if it should be on him or the consignee. I don't expect much from business folks in todays modern practice but I'll be surprised if they take it on themselves to fix it. Hope they do as I have a new COLT 6920LE coming in today.

SIG modified the receiver back then and solved the problem. This is specific to the 556 Classic SWAT and mine is the Pistol version. One man "I thought it was a trunnion issue" Inspect the rifle. Look for wear on the bolt carrier along the front/left undersuface where it would rub the trunnion. It is a trunion issue, not a bolt carrier issue. Response from Kisara: I thought it was a trunnion issue? It was. SIS Sauer's repair fix was to grind away some of the carrier so it wouldn't hit the incorrect shelf in the trunnion.

Problem solved. SIG was returned to Consignee. Good news is........ new COLT 6920LE. Brand new!

Good for you. Hopefully the original owner takes care of any issues, before trying to dump it again.
