    Default AK/AR Mutant

Fayette, MO (Dec. 1, 2014)—CMMG Inc. today announced the release of the Mk47 MUTANT– an all-new rifle platform that combines the accuracy of the modern sporting rifle and relentless AK47-like reliability with the legendary 7.62x39mm round

Yes, but with a 223 bolt cut for the 30 cal case. CMMG is using their 308 platform bolt carrier, and proprietary lower. With their price point, i'll stick with my $399 or less AK's. Another 30 cal option is the 300blk, which requires a different bbl, still utilizing standard AR parts.

Knights Armory did it with the SR-47 over a decade ago.

Seems like a lot of meh to me ... if I wanted a 30 cal AR I'd rather just go with .300 blackout.

One thing that annoys me with AKs in general is the magazine ergos ... rock and lock is pretty lame when compared with drop-free at the touch of a button.

OLY Arms had one 21 years ago. I owned one for maybe 2 weeks. The DI system, combined with a 223 bolt relieved for a 30 cal case was hit or miss. Colt offered a sporter the same time frame in 92 for a few years. It was an answer to the 89 import ban. One not many people responded to.
Now having a handful of those AK style mags with AR towers would be nice.

Yeah, I think I'd just buy an AK if I want to shoot 7.62x39. Much cheaper. Really cool idea though. If it were cheaper, I might consider it.

As Zero Theory said above, this is a solution to a problem that doesn't exist.
