    Yeah, no kidding. Are there any "natural" or reasonable sources of chlorine gas in a hotel? This whole thing smells fishy (no pun intended).

    Accidental mixing of common cleaning chemicals. Granulated chlorine used for pools and spas contaminated with any alkali or acid would do it.

    Edit to add: To see this, just pee in a toilet that someone has bleach in to clean it. Be prepared to flush it in a hurry, as the bubbles are nearly pure chlorine gas.

    You don't even have to mix chemicals accidentally. Pour too much Kaboom! toilet cleaner in the bowl and you'll get more than a whiff. A conventioneer trying to clean or bleach some white "fur" could have done it.
