Default Need help finding a place to live, NW metro area.

I'm moving back to Colorado to go to school, GI Bill FTW, and I need to find a place to live. What I have been finding online seems to be prohibitively expensive and after a 7.5 year absence I just don't know what areas are good and what to avoid. I'll be going to Mines in Golden by way of Red Rocks and my friend, also a Navy vet, will be going to CU Boulder. Obviously Boulder County and Denver are off limits due to cost and laws. A house will be preferable as I have two dogs and she has a cat. Thanks.

Lakewood, Wheat Ridge. A bit further but check out Edgewater. A few folks one the forum live there, I used to work the area a ton. You are gonna be shocked by the increase in rental cost. Any thing west of Wadsworth is decent. Some stuff on the Lakewood / Golden line is more affordable. I know Edgewater is east of Wads. Still about 30 mins to SOMs.

I'd add west Arvada to the list, and I totally agree with anything west of Wadsworth in Lakewood, Arvada, Wheatridge is likely to be pretty good. I'm sure if you find some listings and post the major cross streets you'll get good advice.

Doesn't Boulder county still have higher taxes? I guess I was misinformed, that opens up the area a bit. Thanks.
