It's dumb asses like that who give us a bad name and get the sport shutdown to private ranges and bullshit regulations.
I also think it's up to us when we see people who make bad decisions like those on Memorial Day weekend to tell them what's wrong with what they are doing. Tactfully of course.
As per the Tribune article, the errant round that went into someones home (and almost hit their kid) on Memorial day caused the USFS to close 280 acres of the Pawnee Grasslands to shooters.
I can see where these situations will lead the forest service to close the rest of the grasslands eventually and likely other areas as well. Its just like the
morons who leave all the trash--a few shitheads ruin it for the rest of us.
of course, the only a-holes who don't care about the closure are the ones who's actions got it closed. I wish we could police our own
And I was hoping to get up there within the next few weeks to do a little rattler hunting.
Like someone above said, it's the irresponsible shooters who do the most to get our rights taken away.

There are still plenty of places to shoot. We were out there last week. They simply closed some places with private property signs and small road blocks.
However, I think they are FULL OF SHIT.
I don't believe it one bit. No bullet or entry point were ever provided-and I'll say some more.
For years now, some of the ranchers have been whining about people shooting near their cattle. And yes, some assholes have actually shot the cattle. But the US government reimburses the ranchers for their loss.
Most of them have leased access to Pawnee for grazing, and they have been trying to get these exact same places closed for years. They have appeared at every meeting, sent letters to the Governor himself, filed petitions, etc.
Odd that the FS didn't put up the road blocks and such...........at least in all the places we saw. The ranchers did. And we go all over Pawnee, as we also rockhound the area (kinda amateur geologists-love that stuff).
This isn't the first time they have made unsubstantiated claims like this-but now the FS really has no choice-a "kid" was involved. It's better to err on the side of caution, ya know.
Like I said, they've been trying this for years.
So now they finally found a way.
It doesn't matter where you go in Colorado anymore-you will find that the ranchers ILLEGALLY cordon off PUBLIC access to roads that they have grazing rights or leases-yes, you would win in court, and a few small miners I know of have. But who has the time, money and resources? Not too many.
F-ing liars.
If you go out there, you will see that the only places closed are where the cattle are. Doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure this one out.
