I wouldn't use a WiFi modem as they're mostly tras . That modem I posted is a good start & a quality router (for WiFi) will run you over $100. I've got a few & on some I run custom firmware (DD-WRT, Tomato, etc.) but for the average user that's overkill. A solid residential router would be an Asus N66U which can be had for about $125ish pretty much anytime & sales/refurbs dip under $100. Update the firmware before setup & you've got a solid performing router right out of the box.

I meant WiFi router. I did unplug my modem to reboot. Guess I could do it again.

If you're current modem supports DOCSIS 3.0 then you should be good to go & it saves you $20-$80 for a new one. That router model I posted is a good router.

Mine went from 7.2mbps, unplugged and waited a minute, plugged back in and 7.2mbps...

Also, tried it on wi-fi and direct connection
