    Default Spooky little moment tonight

So, on my way home from family stuff at the in laws tonight the wife and I had a slightly spooky experience. I had just stopped at a traffic light when a guy in a hooded sweatshirt came walking quickly up to the passenger side of our vehicle with his hands in the pockets on the front of his sweatshirt. He was trying to say something but I couldn't make it out. I knew there wasn't traffic coming so as he neared the vehicle I just drove away.

I don't carry a firearm. Kind of spooked me enough that I will probably really reconsider that. I would have felt better equipped to protect my wife had I been armed.

While the wife was a bit freaked out she felt kind of bad not knowing why the guy approached us the way he did. Maybe he needed help. Maybe there was some sort of medical emergency. Who knows. Or maybe he had bad intentions. She commented that it was too bad that now a days you almost can't try to help someone who may be in need for fear that maybe it isn't assistance they are seeking.

Anyhow, I either quickly left a potentially bad situation or sped away from someone in desperate need of assistance.

Looks like it's time to get the ball rolling on that carry permit.

If you were in desperate need of roadside assistance, would you quickly walk up to a stranger's vehicle with your hands in your pockets?

You did what your gut told you was the right thing. Don't second guess yourself.

So about 90 days from now you can tell us about your new CCW

    Be safe.

    Glad that everyone is safe.
You would not believe how many times my wife and I move in an adverse angle (120<deg<160) when approached by people who aggressively approached us. Only happened twice so far.

When I was in Aurora, one of the gal came out of the car and said "I need a job." I don't know. Maybe I watch too much of those defense youtube footage at that time or not to contribute to this action or not, but I immediately went near the engine block standing and told her "I don't work there."
She then said, "Not job, but I need a Jump"

Around that time (2006), I was way over cautious and maybe overly protective.

Ray...how in the heck do you not have a permit?? Or better yet, why do you not pack one in the truck? You don't need a card for that.

I don't think I'd run up with my hands in my pockets while trying to flag somebody down for help. I feel it'd be almost instinctual to have your hands out.

It is cold out, but rapid approach with hands in pockets is not the way I would ask for help. Permit or not sounds like driving away was the right choice.

+1 on driving away. I wear my hoodie during winter (shaved head) but I ALWAYS pull it back before I enter stores, or if I'm going to engage anyone.

I don't trust people with hands in pockets.

I always carry at least one pistol and I would have still hauled ass away from this. I'm not going to let some idiot forever change my life if I can avoid it.

That said... Get a permit and/or a car gun.

This is right on. Avoid the confrontation to begin with, if possible.
