    Default First 1911

So I just got my first 1911, it is a Springfield Armory range officer commander, can you dry fire that weapon? I know to get snap caps, but I have already dry fired it about 20 times and read online that you should never do that with a 1911? Any input would help thank you

DRY FIRE UNTIL YOU WEAR THE FRONT SIGHT OUT. Don't worry about using snap caps.

Excellent choice!! You may acquire other 1911's but don't let go of this one. I think it is the best bang for the buck out there and I haven't been a big fan of Springfield Armory.

Congrats! I have had four 1911 pistols:

AMT Hardballer - What a piece of junk that was. Not even the factory could make it work right. Traded it for a 8mm video camera that I never used and gave to the in-laws.
Springfield GI model - reliable 1911 but not real accurate. It would hit a 8" plate at 50' if I did my job. It was stolen out of my truck while I was in a cafe.
RIA - Bought as a back up but it was a GI model with really low profile sights and my old eyes had a hard time picking up the sights so I sold it to a younger man.
Colt Government - See my avatar. This one is a keeper and my primary carry piece. I like it and it like me, we will be friends forever.

I have never had an issue with dry firing any of them.

    Once again, congrats!

A nice 1911 trigger will make pretty much everything else feel like crap. Enjoy the new toy.

Congratulations on joining the 1911 crowd, just remember, " Once you go 1911, you never go back."
and by the way, before anyone else gives you crap, it is a "Range Officer Compact" not commander, Champion 4" bull barrel & slide on a lightweight Officer's frame. I am wanting one of these too. Did you get it locally ?

Are you planning to go over to the Firing Line any time soon ?
I'll let you shoot one of mine if I can shoot your ROC.

Dry fire until you break it, which you won't. I have the full size Range Officer and wonder how the Compact compares. Report back please.

Hi guys, it is the full size commander one. I really love it, I have been a Glock guy forever and actually trading a friend of mine a Glock 22 gen 2 and a Glock 21 gen 1 for it. Will probably go to the firing line sometime next week sideshow and of course you can shoot her!!
