Not sure what I said that would be considered abrasive. I have seen a number of talks that banter back and forth on 1911 calibers and what a real 1911 should be. I personally have a 1911 in 10mm and still consider it as real as any of the other four in 45acp.

    To the OP:

First - welcome to the addiction.

Next - as others have said, you'll be fine dry firing a 1911. No worries whatsoever.

Last - nobody has mentioned it, but since we're on the do's and don'ts of 1911's, don't make a habit of dropping the slide from the locked open position on an empty chamber. It's the 1911 equivalent of spinning a revolver cylinder then whipping it shut one handed.

If it breaks send it back to SA and most likely it will come back better then before. Springfield has got the best customer service around. I have a new SS Mil Spec and for the price it is tight and dead on. I can shoot out the center of the target most any day with a junk shoot every once in a while but that is my fault.

If we're doing testimonials, I have an early TRP (wood grips and everything) that has untold tens of thousands of rounds through it. I replace the mainspring and the recoil spring roughly once a year. Other than that and different sights, it's stock. Runs like a top.

Everyone is talking about short barrel 1911s...

Maybe not the most reliable 1911 ever made but still fun to shoot.

Wow, does that thing come with a trailer? I would think that the slide is so heavy it would look like slow motion when shooting it. Only thing is, I want one, to convert to 10mm.

It doesn't have much muzzle flip. 10mm would be fun but where to find a 7" barrel?
