Default 300 BLK OUT 10.5" vs 16" Velocity Data

I collected some data on both 16" and 10.5" uppers and figured I would share the info.

10.5" - Aero Precision CM, 1:7 Twist, Pistol Gas

16.1" - Noveske CM, 1:7 Twist, Mid Length Gas

In general the velocity gain was about 125-140 fps with 125gr Nosler Ballistic Tips and H110.

All velocities were recorded using a Magneto Speed V3 at 72F at an indoor range. The testing was completed using 2003 production H110, I have added one point based on a 2014 lot of H110 for correction.

I chose not to include specific load data, but the testing was following the min and max loads listed in the Nosler Reloading Manual #7 which is available online.

Nosler lists the minimum velocity for performance as 1800 fps for Hunting Ballistic Tips. I am comfortable with this min value based on gel tests posted online and my first hand experience with the 165gr Ballistic Tip.

With a max load of H110 at 75F and 5500 FT ASL, the performance range for 125gr Nosler BT is as follows:

    Expansion: 10" - 150yrds, 16" - 225yrds
Energy: 10" - 210yrds, 16” - 290yrds (Personal Preference of 800 ft.lbs for medium size game [White Tail Deer] based on hunting experience)

Expansion is the limiting factor for this scenario.

Terminal Performance Max Ranges (125gr Nosler BT)
    10” – 150yrds
    16” – 225yrds

Ever tried AA5744 with the 125? I've had some GREAT luck getting speed out of it. Like in the low 2300 range from an 18" tube. Brass doesn't last long though hahahaha.

Haven't been able to try A5744, its on my list of powders to buy if in stock.

Just got A1680 today after looking for 11 months. Finally get to load some suppressed loads for the blackout. My SDN6 should be approved in February, need to get subsonic load development started.

where did you find 1680? I know another forum member that's looking pretty hard for it. I've got enough for my uses.

Gave in so to speak... Found 1 lb at Tanner today, talked the guy down to 29.00. There was none when I was at the Tanner gun show in October.

I check almost every Sunday with Sportsmans Warehouse and Cabelas in Thorton. At both places the workers said they haven't seen that particular powder in months.
