    1. How many times have you had your back pack inspected on the trail?

    2. Your never denied the right to self defence.

    3. I'd rather be judged by 12 than carried by 6. (There are too many crack heads out there).

    4. GET A CCW!!! Weather on the Trail, Wal-Mart, 7-11, at the ATM, Or Road Rage! This is a great state, GET ONE!

I don't carry exposed as I don't like the image it creates. However, there is a M640 .357 under my shirt most of the time.

That's what makes me feel comfortable.
What "image" is that? That you're comfortable with excercising your rights? The only reason that people are uncomfortable with OC is that they are scared to death someone will freak out and call the cops.

Honestly, for the most part, people could give a shit. I've never had one single person question me, and several officers have seen it, and not even come up to me. I notice when people are staring at my gun, but that's about it. And you know what, maybe if people see I have a gun, they won't talk to me, which is just fine, cause I'm pretty anti-social anyway.

Oh and to hell with a CCW, I refuse to be "permitted" to carry a gun, and if it isn't enough of a slap in the face, they rape you for it too. IT is my right to carry whatever I want, whenever and wherever I want. When the government starts upholding supreme law instead of making up bullshit legislation under the false guise of "Public Saftey" , then maybe everyone can slowly pull their heads out their asses.

I agree. On the flip side of a CCW, it is just more monitoring/control of the citizenry and a way to generate revenue from a right set out in the Constitution. (But we already knew this right?) Quite opposite of the Constitution's intent. Many people are like "just get a CCW". I resist this normalization of registration. I'm just the opposite. I want to cultivate/normalize the excercising of my 2nd Amendment right as a law abiding citizen, sans ANY paperwork or infringement by the government.

OC it . It makes the most sense. Carry it in your pack too if you wish.
Hell, this is a free country right? (insert sarcasm)

Well the law cuts both ways. Some "protect" us while other annoy us to no end. So I would suggest you get a permit since it's the law and we live in a free enough state to "allow" us to have the nice law as opposed to somewhere like Kalifornia where you pretty much screwed. Until you have a permit I would also go along with the other guys and say that you open carry if you're worried about freaks or animals. At lest that way you are legal.

I don't believe you can OC in Denver city/county, so go hike somewhere else. It's a big state and you don't need to stay there to hike. But if you open carry, I would strongly suggest some sort of retention holster. I don't actually own a retention holster because the only time I'm not concealed I'm at a match.

If you're interested in getting a permit at some time PM me and I can take care of the class for you.

I don't go hiking or into the mountains without having an open carry Blackhawk .357mag with hydrashock hollowpoints on my hip - for predators (I'm not talking about bears or cougars here).

Just having that definitely solved a problem back in 2002 up near Lake George when I had an encounter with a guy who was just released from Jolliet State Penetentiary (near Chicago, IL) the day before. Actually, it was this guy and his 5 skin-head buddies. He was looking to steal my fishing rod/reel that I set down (line still in the water - went to get more bait 100 yrds downstream). He started to give me attitude then changed his demeanor drastically when he saw the gun. When he went back to his buddies and started eyeing me I realized it was time to leave!

What would you do if you came upon some poachers - and they saw you too? Do you think having a firearm in a pack will keep you safe? I wouldn't want to bet my life on it! Wear it OC and well loaded!

Just get the permit, El Paso County is/was fast and competent. They had their act together well before the statewide "shall issue" passed.

I really just don't see the need for it though. If you can't carry a weapon openly somewhere, then it's not allowed under a CCW either, save for one reason. Within 1000 feet of a school. If you have a CCW , that's negated.

If you're in your car though, and driving through a school zone with an open weapon, you're ok.

I agree with Thomas, just seeing it on you with deter 99% of criminals out there, without even having to hint at touching it. The other 1%? Well, if they're stupid enough to keep messing with you, then they get what they deserve.
