Pretty interesting video. I'm thinking these cops were really pumped up, this footage will be used in LEO training for a number of reasons. Kind of overkill on the charging mass?

A chief for the RAID (French Police Swat, different from the GIGN), just gave his report. The plan had to be changed at the last minute because the terrorist started his prayer and was not focusing on the main door... They saw an opportunity to minimize civilian death, since the hostages were stacked in a row between the front and rear exit. They decided that because of the type of weapon involved, their body armor will resist the hits and decided to storm the place using both entrance. It's the same kind of strategy used by the gign during the Air France hijacking a while back

I can understand a show of force and an effective tactical squad. But that was a little overkill.

Reminded me of the movie "The Professional"....
Edit: the scene continues with the entire NYPD arriving on-scene...

Holy shit on a shingle! Those 'cops' were so undisciplined it was scary to watch. Play it back again and watch the group on the left setting up. When shots start to fire two of them are reaching around a blind corner and discharging rounds into a hostage situation. BOTH sides of the lead guy's head and at one point he pulls back for cover and may or may not have got hit with the blind fire. Notice how he pulls back out of the line after that happens? Seriously, how many cops and hostages were hit with 'friendly fire' in this situation? Unreal. I get adrenaline is going and it's a high stress situation but if I was in the Paris PD and saw this video I would find a job selling insurance post haste. Heaven forbid you be the one guy who takes shit serious enough to train and want to be first one in because the odds of you getting cut down by your own guys are incredibly high. That was some scary shit to watch and I feel for the hostages if those are your rescuers. I know I know, easy to Monday Morning QB but that was brutal.
I'm not fat, I'm tactically padded.

It most countries LE is a reflection of political leadership (things are obviously a bit different here in the US). Look at France's leadership that won't even connect these events to Islam. Leadership that disarmed its own people while simultaneously importing immigrants that openly refused to assimilate--violence was bound to happen but they could never see it/admit it.
When you think about that, these videos make perfect sense. LE was unprepared because the leadership is unprepared.
Now Europe is at a crossroads: Get prepared or else. The learning curve is steep on this one.
And we're only marginally better in that department--the only thing keeping us prepared is the commitment of those in LE to be professionals fight for what is right. Our "leadership" is slowly chipping away at that as well, IMHO.
