Yup! Or in this movie's case, putting an airborne tab over the tab & scroll. At least most (not all) of this movie is correct from what my friends still in SOF have told me. Most of the recent OEF/OIF movies have been way off mark. I'd need a delegate thread to correct what Hollywood f'ed up in Lone Survivor. Hurt Locker was highly sensationalized as well. I still remember the POS movie they did about the Jessica Lynch raid...

slight derail, but wasn't Marcus Luttrell part of the entire process to make sure that everything was right?

Yes. In fact he's an extra in a handful of scenes. That doesn't mean it wasn't Hollywoodified.

Hollywood had the final say in what was portrayed.

Read the book, just saw the movie. There are some pretty big plot differences. Overall, I thought the movie was a good diversion from reality for 90 minutes or so... I'd call it a 6 or 7 out of 10.

To expand a bit. I know the Dietz family, they were all quite "content" with how Danny was portrayed in the film "Lone Survivor" and this is the same impression I'm left with reading/listening to the many interviews with the Kyle family. They understood that the films were going to change things up a bit-as would be expected trying to condense any book into a 2 hour film. Again, these films are not documentaries but instead hoped to capture the essence of the books and the men portrayed. If the families are content then who am I to find fault with the films.

Here's one of many interviews with the screen writer:

As far as getting the various tabs/ranks etc. correct or not, it doesn't have anything to do with an actor impersonating a servicemember. Hell, that's like having an actor with say, oh I don't know, a felony conviction on their record yet handling a firearm (doesn't matter legally if it's adapted to fire blanks) in a role. With a brother in the film industry (started as a set builder, moved on to special effects, now on the business side of things) he attributes it to sloppiness or being "close enough".

Also as an aside it was interesting watching "The Hurt Locker" with my older son shortly after his return from a deployment. He commented frequently on how "oh that guy with the" cell phone, camera, etc would've had rounds go his way if seen during his outings. He also talked about the timing of the film (being early in the war) with different ROEs than on his time might explain a little of it. Still, he had a Navy EOD team with him and he commented that there was a guy or two who acted very close to Renner's character (this was prior to the film coming out).

Accuracy notwithstanding, it was a good film. If it doesn't make you want to empty an insurgent's braincase, you need to have your testosterone levels checked.

It was honestly a lot better than I expected. I definitely enjoyed it.

I haven't seen it. But the movie, and Kyle's widow, are sure getting a lot of attention in the media lately. 6 Oscar nominations including Best Picture. Wow!

Thumbs up. Cooper did justice to Kyle. Ending was understandably sad, but the live shots of the funeral procession and the crowds were emotional.
