Default Mommy Answers vs. Daddy Answers

Didn't want to step on Lex's thread on fatherly advice, but I had one of those Mommy vs. Daddy moments last night with my 4 year old.
He comes running into the bedroom at early-thirty, screaming his head off about "Chauky" (Rhymes with caulk-ey). We get him to calm down a little bit. I ask him who Chauky is. He says Chauky is a monster who comes into people's houses and through the TV, and he hurts people and eats their brains.

My wife is a recovering teacher and an early elementary ed major. She tries to be rational, and tell him that Chauky is pretend. No effect. So sleepy Dad steps in:

Me - "Who told you about Chauky"
    Boy - "Aiden at school."
Me - "Remember when we watched Star Wars?"
    Boy - "Yes"
Me - "What do light sabers cut through?"
    Boy - "Everything"
Me - "Then you tell Aiden that if Chauky comes over to our house, me and you are going to cut his ass into little pieces with light sabers. Now go to sleep."
    Boy - "Ok, Daddy"

All this morning, my boy has been running around telling people we are going to cut up Chauky with light sabers.

    My wife is not amused.
Math is tough. Let's go shopping!

Sometimes only the threat of violence works.

Kinda hard to rationalize irrational fears with most 4 yr olds.
If you're unarmed, you are a victim

There is nothing wrong with empowering your kid to take care of a situation like this. I think it comes down to teaching them to be a victim vs a man. It all starts when they are young. Sounds like you hit a home run. It can be overdone but that does not sound like the case here.

What in the word makes you think this? 4-year-old girls can be just as feral as little boys. When I had to make my point in a disagreement with the neighbor kids, I'd reach for my Tonka Truck. One good clock across the head usually let them know my annoyance. 4-year-olds aren't known for their delicacy or subtlety, no matter their gender.

    FIFY.

Those were the days, when you could ride on your toy truck on the sidewalk going down the hill.......
