There is a big difference between the players on the field and the chumps in the stands.I'm sure none of the actual players laughed, although there is a great / revealing scene in "Fever Pitch" (I know…) where a diehard fan catches the players out at dinner having a blast after a loss.
I do think the NFL fan thing is out of control. How many teams have undercover cops in opposing team jerseys now?
I can say one evening, probably 3 years ago, I happened to be wearing another team's (again, GB) hat, and it was the breast cancer hat at that (!) coming into one of the more well known pizza establishments on the West Side.
I held the door for some old lady and when she saw it, she actually said something like, "Green Bay? I don't think so!" I just smiled and held it. Part of me wanted to respond, "Who cares what you think?" but I held the door and smiled.
It was more pathetic than anything and reminded me of that old booing woman on the news. Is this where we are as fans?
