Russian legislators approved the carry of guns for self-defense

Looks great in a news article, but the law there is so damned corrupt, legislation means nothing when it comes to protecting both the citizens and their individual rights. I suspect that the permits will be just like Los Angeles CCL's: for the rich & influential only. Or let's say some МВД thug stops someone who's conceal-carrying (maybe he gets lucky, or maybe he sees a print) and asks to see the carry permit. "Oh see, this one is no good, because look I just tore it in half" and then he confiscates the weapon to add to his personal collection.

Sorry to sound so cynical, but Russia is just so thugtastic and sh*t*y.

As opposed to the excellent option for carrying that they currently have/had...

Reminds me of the "asset siezure" bullshit here in the US, or whatever they call it. "Oh look, you have $5000 in cash and you're driving across country? You must be a criminal! We'll just have to sieze that cash and throw you in jail, for the public safety you know".
