First thing, as others have said, determine WHO holds the property. If they were in an accident on the interstate/highway, then it is likely that the State Patrol has the firearm, not the local PD.
If CSP has it, you could likely initiate contact at your local CSP barracks for info on how to best proceed.
If, in fact, the Limon PD has it, give them a call ((719) 775-9211)to find out what your options are.
If everyone you call plays dumb, file a stolen firearm report ASAP, as stated above (and it may not hurt to let that intention slip, when talking to any/all agencies you contact).
Not likely in today's political climate. May require a BGC, since it's been more than 72hrs. Don't know what precedent has been set, regarding "police hold" (for lack of a better term) of lawfully owned firearms not used in the commision of a crime. There is a thread about this situation happening in Fort Collins, but I don't recall how that panned out, and I'm too lazy to search it for a link. It IS Saturday morning, after all.![]()
My T.P. wheeling and dealing feedback is here.
Opinions are like assholes, everybody has one, and it stinks more than mine.

To the OP:
If you end up driving to Limon to pick up the firearm, stop in at the Ace Hardware and the Big R. R is usually good for some reasonably priced 22lr, and the Ace has a decent gun counter and reloading supplies.
Oops...I let the cat out of the bag.![]()
