We had this setup when we lived in Conifer. Long, curved driveway...the house is hardly visible from the road. Nice neighborhood. Well, we got home and discovered someone had broken in.
The thieves gave our dogs treats, and were picky about what they took. My wife had a ring from her grandma that was taken, they took a Deep Rock water jug that was full of change (over a grand easily), and some other stuff that was easy to get out. They didn't take TVs or stuff like that. They took a fake Rolex that I had. I'd like to have seen the surprise on the creep's face when he tried to sell or pawn that. We were pretty shaken. Take heart that peace of mind will mostly return. The thief used my old Remington Nylon 66 .22 rifle (and broke the stock!) to pry open other locked rifle cases (we have since bought a safe). They took no firearms luckily.
We immediately got an alarm system. That's when most people get a system...once they've been burglarized.
We heard from a Aurora detective a couple of years later that they had found a police scanner (we used to listen to fire calls so we would know about forest fires immediately) that we reported stolen but didn't get it back since we didn't have the serial number. The thief had been caught in an unrelated matter and they discovered stolen items. The thief had come up to Conifer from Aurora to do his robberies! He was going to houses that couldn't be seen from the road, knocking on the door and if nobody answered, he'd break in somehow (broke a window in our case). We've never got anything back that was stolen.
I hate thieves. Sorry this happens.
