I do know though that if I am carrying I am a good bit more....well....tolerant is not the right word but let a lot more crap slide, ain't worth the aggravation.
What would fire somebody up so much in a grocery store?
Somebody grab the wrong cucumber?
Make a rude comment about his can of tuna and roast beef?

Dumbass! Plain and simple. Grown-up, emotionally mature adults do NOT start squabbles in the middle of the afternoon in a grocery store, of all places. They don't carry their snitfest outside of the store. It doesn't say if the armed guy struggled with the other person before shooting him, or if he struggled to pull his weapon. Either way, he was more interested in stroking his own ego and being "right" to the extent of shooting the other guy. SHOOTING him.

I have zero sympathy for him. In fact, the sound of my text is that of contempt. This is road rage in the form of an armed asshole, which is not only infinitely more dangerous because he is controlled by the chip on his shoulder and not a lick of reason or common sense. What do you think may have happened if someone had tried to break up the fight? He gives gun owners a bad name. He doesn't deserve to carry around a sharp pencil, much less a gun.

Despite being full of several big assumptions I think the reason this article stood out to me is that it seems this man viewed his gun as a sort of "magic tool" that would overcome not only his poor decision making skills but also his crappy gun handling. I found it a sort of good reality check. Just because you carry a gun doesn't make you the good guy, nor does it mean you are able to use it properly when you do pull it out.

I think I disagree. We just had a thread about doing what's right, and many people took that stance. I know I don't always back down from confrontation. I often will, but almost never because I'm carrying; especially in someplace like a supermarket. HOWEVER, I would say that while I might not shy away from confrontation, I would certainly do everything I could to avoid shooting someone.

Edit to add, perhaps I should reconsider bring less confrontational.

You make a good point, there is a big difference between not backing down from a confrontation (or better yet, confronting someone), and escalating said confrontation. It would seem in many instances to confront someone on a wrongdoing on their behalf, or something that requires intervention, would be permissible. However, one should attempt to keep the confrontation peaceful and amicable and not allow it to spiral out of control and into a situation where there lies a potential for violence or the police needing to intervene. On the surface, and without all the facts, this case would seem to be one where things got out of hand and beyond the control of the guy with the gun.
