I've put in for many areas over the years, just usually looking to play the odds (apps versus tags) but then I noticed that in the reg booklets they explained the process (moose, sheep and goat are all the same process). Per CPW reg booklet:

    10. WEIGHTED PREFERENCE increases your probability of drawing a moose license. It is calculated by converting your application number into a different application number, then dividing that new number by the amount of weighted points you have, plus one. This generates another new application number. Applications are sorted by this new number from lowest to highest and low numbers for each hunt code are awarded licenses.

I called CPW and asked for clarification how this number was computed and they said that your application number is converted into a "random" number and then this "random" number is what is divided by your weighted points plus one. So that begs the question in my mind, are we dealing with just "random" based solely on total number of applicants for that species or is this "random" number generated for 10, 11, 12... or how many digits? I haven't been able to get an answer on that.

So the way I see it, in reality, once you have your 3 points under your belt, it really is a lottery type of draw.

Common sense is a punishment for having to deal with those who don't have it.
