I agree Dave_L. Their Image (choice/action) goes a tremendous way to fighting against stereotypes.
Additionally, how someone chooses to present themselves is the most literal outpouring of their self-identity and/or aspirations... If they wish to dress like a thug, it clearly indicates that they relate closest with the "thug lifestyle" or at minimum wish that they did (some kids are just posers).
Actions, which I contend includes how they choose to present themselves and behave, speak louder than words.

It's one's appearance that makes a first impression. You want to get respect dress like you deserve it. Those adults standing there present to the locals & the world how the "citizens" of the community feel about the actions of the few. it shows not everyone who lives there embraces a certain look and lifestyle.
