I think you'd have a hard time getting here from LV should things take such a turn ... that said my brother lives in Vegas so you can join him if you like

We have plenty of improvements that could be made for the security of our home, but it's a much finer line than I realized between 'security' and 'trap'. Am I overthinking this?

I'm thinking some sort of quickly deploy-able extra security measures would be a good idea. Something you keep stored in the basement or garage only to be deployed if the S hits the F. Something along the lines of a complete set of bars for the windows that you could install within a couple hours.

Another option might be steel shutters like folk in hurricane country use.

That way in times of peace you're not making it harder to escape a burning house nor interfere with the FD doing their job.

We all need some "I Am Legend" style metal shutters that deploy at the push of a button.
