    Default Anyone know Xterra repair?

My son bought a 2001 Xterra. There are a few electrical issues plus we need to replace the rear wiper motor. Anyone know these things? Email or pm and we exchange numbers, thanks. We're in Centennial near Southglenn if that helps.

    Jack up radiator cap.
Remove Nissan vehicle from under radiator cap.
Place real vehicle (Ford / Chevy / Dodge) under radiator cap.
    Lower radiator cap.
    Drive vehicle as normal.

No, he admitted it was a vehicle. No one would DARE call it a truck. Remember, the Yugo was a vehicle also.

Ouch!! Funny but I've had great luck with Nissan's (had a '93 Pathfinder, '06 Frontier) as has my older son-he has a '12 Xterra and had an Altima before that. Seriously though pretty much every mfg has issues but we just get lucky every now and then

Tmleadr03 has a shop that direction, I think he is exclusively BMW but he might be worth a shot.

I actually just started working at Nissan. Too far away to help. However, I will offer this advice. Replace your radiator every 5-8 years. From the main shop techs there, it sounds like there is an issue where the transmission fluid will get into the coolant because of the way the radiator is designed. Eventually it weakens, and the fluids mix, killing the trans.

Xterrra owner . . . but no mechanic even in the mildest sense of the word. Check here, it's a great forum for Xterra Q&A and how-to's. If there's nothing posted there on it already, you can join and post up and there are some good guys on there who can maybe give some tips: http://www.thenewx.org/forum/index.php

Also, on the radiator issue that boomerhc9 mentioned . . . that's a legit concern. It's called SMOD ("Strawberry Milkshake of Death") because of the color your fluids turn when they mix and it kills your tranny. Check to see if a previous owner "bypased" the radiator cooling lines, which is a common mod to avoid the problem because there is an external tranny cooler in them. But if it's the original rad then a good idea to get it replaced.

I just barley avoided it with my 2008 . . . had it in at the shop a few months ago and they spotted the fluid mixing (ironically I had mine in for them to do that bypass and to add a 2nd external cooler) so they replaced the radiator and tranny for free. From what I understand, the radiator problem was biggest in 2005-2009, but it's a known issue with Xterras and Frontiers/Pathfinders in that same era.

EDIT: Or since yours is a Gen 1 . . . this may have more/other info as I think it's more for the earlier models: http://www.clubxterra.org/forums

Oh I got, sorry if it appeared I didn't. A good ribbing is fine with me.

I appreciate all the info and suggestions. One more example of what makes this a great place!
