One of only two MK. 1 Spitfires in airworthy condition is up for auction this summer. I'm thinking I'll bid on it...but I'll have to stop at about $100. If I had the kind of money it would take to buy it, I would in a NY minute.

I knew N3200 had been under restoration. Im guessing Paul Allen will end up with and add to his fleet.
I just looked it up, they made over 20,000 Spitfires in the day, more than any other allied fighter design of WW2.
Awesome machine.
The museum in Duxford is definitely worth the trouble to get there. I had gone there in 2004 and was amazed by the place... lots of aircraft just waiting for restoration too.

When i was a kid and a teen i used to hang out with stephen grey and his folks from duxford. I flew in the 2 seater spifire he had for one memorable presentation at the ferte alais airshow in france in the mid 80'. This used to be one of the 3 best airshow in the world after duxford and the caf show in harlingen, tx.

What a great piece of history. Hopefully the person who buys it intends to continue to fly it for the world to enjoy and remember that part of our history.
