I think this would be a great way for a group to start a pistol marksmanship program, similar to how the Appleseed Project teaches rifle marksmanship.

Anyone else remember what happened to the 1911's, M-14's and the Department of Civilian Marksmanship under Bill Clinton's rule?

FWIW, I didn't know this until today but there are at least three different types of relationships with CMP.

    1) Normal club affiliations (Ranges, clubs, schools, BSA/JROTC, etc)

    https://ct.thecmp.org/app/v1/index.php?do=clubSearch

    2) "Special Affiliates" like veterans orgs, military services, law enforcement orgs and groups

    3) A 1-per-state association. That is CSSA in Colorado. As far as I can tell, the major difference is an "official" tighter relationship, and that CMP provides one cheap $200 Garand every year to be auctioned off for raising funds.

Here's the first 50 off the current list of affiliates for those who may still be looking for something to qualify for a purchase. I was too lazy to figure out how to pull the next 50, but you can go to the link above and search for something nearby pretty easily.

The only thing I see as a impediment to my acquiring a M1911A1 will be the prices, I am sure that with just shy of a 100,000 pieces, the asking prices will be in the realm of the collectors and auction prices will be astronomical. But, they have to be self supporting so sell them for what the market will bear.

Orest retired last year... I remember a thread a while back where someone said they had talked directly to him and he was supportive but acknowledged it was an uphill battle.
    But now, who knows...?
