Alabama congressman proposes CMP take control of old Army 1911A1s

There has been lots of chatter about this in the past, but I think this is the first time I've ever seen an actual legit proposal.
I won't hold my breath - it would have Congress and the President to make it past, and the CMP's charter would have to be updated, as I believe it currently will not support/allow handgun sales.

Anyway, it is an interesting dream. Maybe Hillary will let us have the South Korean Garands back if she takes office, too. LOL.

There are local chapters of the CMP? I have been a customer of CMP for a long time, but didn't know they had any actual chapters/local groups.
Did you mean maybe the GCA / Garand Collector's Association? I don't know much about it, but a few others had mentioned it and I thought about signing up at one point.

Awesome news!!! Anyone else hoping they don't re-arsenal them and preserve collector value? I'd rather have a collector than a shooter (new GIs are cheap).

Odds are they are mix-masters and re-arsenals anyway... But I'd love to see what they can get!

No such thing as a local chapter but there are affiliated clubs. Active duty and retired members of any of the armed forces qualify with a photocopy of their ID card. CSSA members count (although I never got a membership card or materials for the 5 years I was a member). Registered members of the Pikes Peak Council of BSA can qualify. Lots of other clubs qualify.
