Default Russia has a new tank?

Looks kinda goofy, that large flat area on right side of turret seems like a mondo weak point.

Their own remote gun on top is kinda neat.

Ahh the famous May Day Parade
Didn't notice the white highlights on the vehicle they used to do.

Should be their new T14,,125mm smoothbore, when everyone else's is 120mm.
If they follow previous manufacturing, they will use the same chassis, for different vehicles.

the Armata "is a cutting-edge vehicle with an unmanned turret armed with a brand new 125 mm smoothbore cannon, which is the most powerful gun of its kind to date in terms of muzzle energy.
Anyone that thinks that a tank is the way forward on the battlefield needs their head examined. In 99% or modern engagements, tanks are nothing more than expensive coffins for their crews when faced with any kind of modern air attack.

I thought coalition tanks did quite well in the GWoT with minimal casualties. In a war with China/Russia, perhaps not so much...

First, you need to define the modern battle field. I would argue that we need to prep for the future battlefield. What is that? It could be a near-peer competitor (China, Russia, etc) or it could be more of these complex battles against non-state actors. To write-off the tank as no longer needed or simply as coffins is absurd.

No doubt armor is helpful against less sophisticated enemies, but if they're advanced enough to have air support, the advantages are pretty much negated.

Not true. It is a pipe dream to think airpower is going to kill everything on the battlefield, especially armor.

IIRC in Chechnya, a group of rebels took out the tracks on the point and rear tanks of a column in a narrow alley way. They rained down all kinds of explosives and molotovs forcing the tank crews to evacuate.
