Default Russia has a new tank?

Looks kinda goofy, that large flat area on right side of turret seems like a mondo weak point.

Their own remote gun on top is kinda neat.

Ahh the famous May Day Parade
Didn't notice the white highlights on the vehicle they used to do.

Should be their new T14,,125mm smoothbore, when everyone else's is 120mm.
If they follow previous manufacturing, they will use the same chassis, for different vehicles.

the Armata "is a cutting-edge vehicle with an unmanned turret armed with a brand new 125 mm smoothbore cannon, which is the most powerful gun of its kind to date in terms of muzzle energy.
Anyone that thinks that a tank is the way forward on the battlefield needs their head examined. In 99% or modern engagements, tanks are nothing more than expensive coffins for their crews when faced with any kind of modern air attack.

I thought coalition tanks did quite well in the GWoT with minimal casualties. In a war with China/Russia, perhaps not so much...

GWOT targets forgot to bring a air force. A well place mine is still effective.

We controlled the air over the battlefield.

Tanks have a very strong intimidation factor.
    Specially when used against civilians.
    Also in undeveloped country's.
It will not be NATO vs Russia and whatever allies (China?)
Tanks still have a role,as a mobile artillery.
    Just my 2 cents.

Understood that flat area to left of turret is a heavily armored drivers window/periscope.

China/Russia being foes with air power was implied :P
Also, no amount of armor is going to beat a crapton of artillery rounds daisy-chained together buried under dirt. RIP tankers.

I had a co-worker that was from the former Soviet Union. He served his conscription as a T-80 tanker. They were told their life expectancy in a conflict with NATO was about 30 seconds.

What? LOL. We already have mobile artillery, it is called the Paladan. If you want to piss off a tanker or an artilleryman, just refer to anything that has armor as a tank. It is great fun.

Look to the past and all of the hate against the M1 Abrams. We didn't need it, it cost too much money, there is no longer a need for tanks with modern air power. Blah, blah, blah. Desert Storm proved all of those folks wrong. The M1 was needed and proved itself over and over.

Wingnuts have been preaching about air power being the end all to conflict since the end of WWI. Well, it isn't that easy. Precision bombing only does so much. Plans can't retain terrain, only tanks and infantrymen can do that.
