    Default 600-1,000yd Optics

I have a coworker who's looking for an optic for 600-1,000yd range. I can't recommend him anything as I don't have that knowledge or experience in long range shooting. What equipment are you experienced shooters using and why? What would be your Holy Grail of optics? Thanks for your help, guys.

Premier Heritage 5-25x56. I have 2 and they are fantastic.

Great question! It really depends on the type of shooting your friend wants to do. 600-1k can be achieved with a $300 fixed 10x scope, but can also be achieved with a $3500 S&B...

Good glass is expensive. Even more when you start dialing knobs.

2-3K is a good starting point price wise.

He's expecting $1k and over. I know that's extremely broad, but he's just seeing what others are using and will go from there to see if he can afford it.

Low end, look at Vortex Viper PST. ($1,000)

Middle of the road is Steiner T5Xi ($1,700)

Moving up is Vortex Razor HD Gen II ($2,500)

Then Nightforce ATACR ($3,000?, they're not out yet)

    Then S&B ($3,700)

There are 20 other choices probably, but that list would get him started.

All will get the job done well enough.

This guy tested out 18 different high end scopes and wrote about his findings here: http://precisionrifleblog.com/2014/0...sults-summary/

    However these are $1500 minimum.

My EDC: Handcuffs, Bandana, and Ball Gag.

If I'm ever at a party and the cops come to arrest people. Ill blindfold myself, throw the ball gag in, handcuff my hands, and hide in a closet. Police never arrest hostages!

Another good site for your friend to review. A lot of it is "eye of the beholder".

My preference is for the SWFA SS 5-20X out to a 1000 yards. Not Alpha glass but good balance between optical quality/reliability and price.
