Default New Build (Semi) - AR Detent Spring

Pivot pin detent is driving me nutz...just lucky I haven't lost a detent or spring yet!!!

I'd rather slam my d#ck in a door multiple times than deal with this again. I wish I would've researched the clevis or Brownell tool first. Or I should've taken the lower and LPK to BP for no headaches.

Geez, what a PITA. Guess I'll head to Home Depot tomorrow to try the clevis route.

Try using a punch to hold the detent in place before inserting the pivot pin.

If you haven't already you should watch some YouTube video on building lowers.

Yep, did both. The bag work for the intended purpose. I used one of our large "vacuum seal bags" that we use to store quilts and comforters long-term. It saved by butt the first 10-15 times for sure.

Additionally, I tried using a punch and a hex to hold the detent while feeding the pivot pin with no luck. The biggest problem is getting the detent started and then holding it until tool is in place to hold it.

Some of the videos I watched made it look simple but seemed different than my set-up. One guy was actually able to rest the detent on top of the spring without applying pressure. My first thought was "he trimmed the spring so that he could make a bogus youtube video and look like a hero".

Maybe it depends on the LPK but it ticked me off every time I watched that video. Oh well...it was super late and I was super frustrated because I know it can be done. I'll tackle that SOB today for sure.

Buy the clevis pin, have it done in 45 sec.

Wow...that $1.57 Clevis is the best. Wish I would've had that last night!!!

    Took maybe 90 seconds max.

Thanks for all the help and input

I use a piece of .250 drill rod. Works like a charm.

Phoenix Weaponry Billet lowers have a set screw instead of the detent. Makes putting an LPK in really easy.
