Default Interesting comments on racism in our country

There is another class of coloured people who make a business of keeping the troubles, the wrongs, and the hardships of the Negro race before the public. Having learned that they are able to make a living out of their troubles, they have grown into the settled habit of advertising their wrongs — partly because they want sympathy and partly because it pays. Some of these people do not want the Negro to lose his grievances, because they do not want to lose their jobs.
Sounds a lot like the race-baiter in chief, and Sharpton, and many others that dominate the left-wing media.

But that quote is from Booker T. Washington, American civil rights leader, accomplished scholar, and founder of Tuskegee University.

And Michelle Obama apparently doesn't agree with that quote, since she gave a commencement address at Tuskegee University full of race baiting, and whining about perceived racial insults.

Oh, THAT Booker T. But seriously, my dad and grandfather left South Africa during Apartheid. Upon arriving in what was then Zaire, my father fled in the midst of civil war. With nothing but his own guile and perseverance, he went to Canada, and eventually immigrated to the US. He busted his ass and finished both undergrad and grad school, and went on to work for Lockheed Martin.

I think he'd throw me into a wood chipper if I tried to use the "White man keeping me down" liberal logic. I've never interviewed for a job and not been offered the position, and the only time I've had my opinion suppressed in school was when I foolishly took an 'easy A' in a liberal social course and wrote about the emasculation of modern man. The only people keeping me down are the ones Booker talked about, and their fair-skinned, self-guilt enablers. The ones who try to pigeon-hole me as some victim instead of encouraging self-achievement.

Instead of blocking classrooms at Berkeley or demanding that their 18th Century Female Humanities degree is contributive, these whiners could be getting S.T.E.M. degrees, learning trades, or becoming police officers/councilmen/et. al. and inspiring change from within. But I suppose that's wishful thinking.

There are those in our nation who will focus on that which divides us. I do not pay much attention to those people. This nation was built by people willing to roll up their sleeves and work. The skin color, national origin, and religious beliefs of those people is interesting but does not define their accomplishments.

All Men are created equal. What We choose to do with that opportunity is what defines US and will determine the future of this American experiment.

A divided people will never make a stand. The most effective strategy to keep people from raising up or regaining any kind of power is to divide them.

A lot of educated people used British conventions during the 19th century. Heck, I STILL deal with someone who insists on adding an extraneous 'u' just to demonstrate his "old school" education (the guy is actually conversant in Latin and used to listen to Gregorian chants).

I got marked down in grade school for using "whilst" in a paper. I told my mom about it (she was an English major) and she "corrected" the teacher in person.
The teacher shan't make that mistake again...

I once used "niggardly" on the written portion of a job application.
