Drake CO area, weekend place.

Hi folks. I want to get my kids out of the house on the weekends and do a little Colorado outdoor fun.
Thinking about finding a weekend place something near Drake or highway 36 to Estes. Since I am in Longmont I want to go north and not deal with I70 traffic. Hope to find something not in Boulder County. For now I think a rental place to find a good area and try it out but maybe buy some land if it's cheap or a small cabin, someplace with no hoa dues.

If you are a parent how did it work out with your kids to unplug them on weekends?

Any tips or info on the area greatly appreciated. Places to shoot? Motorcycle riding areas? Outdoor fun info? Realtor or leasing agent leads?

There may not be much in the area, since a lot of it has not been rebuilt since the flood. You're not going to find a place to shoot in the drake, hwy 34 area. Going to Drake from longmont, that's like a 40 min. drive. You really want to enjoy something, look up towards Walden, up 127 to the wycolo area.
Unplugging our daughter was easy. We told her we're taking a road trip. Had her sit between the spouse and i on my MC for day trips. As she got older we'd find something all of us thought was interesting, by truck packed the pups with us.

IIRC one of the board members has / had a place in Drake.

Thanks for the feedback. Yeah close is nice so as not to spend a lot of time driving. Thanks for the tip on Walden , will look at what's there
