Shot the broken gun for the 5 o'clock and it didn't go well. Switching to backup gun for a second try. Johhny cleaned it up tonight. Kazoo started strong as well. Driver went almost all the way as well.

Would I embarrass myself if I showed up to one of these?
And if I wouldn't then what kind of equipment do I need?
No you wouldn't. There are some brand new people. Everyone shot 5 pins at 5 o'clock. All you need is a gun and two mags. A lot of people don't even have a holster.
They are practically begging people to sign up for the holster draw match on the 4th Wednesday.

I couldn't make the five o'clock time slot during the week but might be able to do the seven o'clock depending on where I'm working. Might have to check it out sometime.

Sneakerd didn't show to the 5:00 PM shoot tonight, so I had a chance to win. It was a good group tonight. In proof that life is random, the guy I beat in the finals had just previously powered through what had to be the fastest run of the evening. He was wicked fast. Just caught a bad break on the finals and gave my pokey ass a chance to catch up and win.
Good group of guys out tonight from the forums, including GK, Irving, and Driver. Driver in particular showed up with a 9mm, had to buy some ammo while there, and had some tough pin breaks, but still made it all the way to the quarter finals. Very impressive shooting for the first time up.
Math is tough. Let's go shopping!
Man what a crummy night to miss. Putting my call in early tomorrow.

Okay, used a gun that works for the 7 o'clock match and it was a lot more fun that way. I accidentally brought steel cased ammo and had to buy range ammo. As far as anyone being embarrassed, only if you shoot steel core ammo (I slid by unnoticed by the crowd, but the second guy got hazed and talked about) or if you don't step up when they call your number. Otherwise, it is just like every other match where a lot of people are there with friends and only half paying attention.
My assessment of the match is that it is a lot of fun (when you're winning) and a GREAT way to enter competition if you've never done so before. With fixed targets, no movement, and no holster draw or fancy equipment requirements it is perfect for those hesitant to jump into IDPA or IPSC or USPSA. On the other hand, shooting head to head with another shooter keeps it interesting. I think this match is a great way to learn to shoot accurate, and fast at the same time. I don't know if I'll ever be able to shoot again, but I'd like to. I had a lot of fun, met new faces (from here) and hope to see you guys again.
Sneakered, were you there? I asked around but everyone I was with has never met you before.

A few more things JohnnyEgo just reminded me about. The unique thing about brackets is that even if you get knocked out, there can still be people left that you can handily beat, so it can be frustrating.
On the 9mm point, with good hits, the pins go down okay; but I definitely lost (and saw another guy lose the same way) when I knocked a pin over first, but it took its time rolling around and hit the floor right after the other guy.

Finally met a couple guys from the site at the 7pm shoot tonight. Driver and Irving, nice seeing you guys. I was rusty as hell tonight, the rounds I did manage to win were mostly due to the other shooter having bad luck. I'll be one of the last remaining yellow shooters at this rate. My son did good tonight with his Sig P250 DAO gun. He was a yellow card guy tonight, but will definitely be bumped up to green for next time. When he hit the quarter finals tonight and had to shoot 5, he tried to speed up and missed badly. Hopefully next time shooting 5 the entire time will let him get in the rhythm.
