    Default Match Question

How many people would be interested in a monthly postal match at CRC?

    Here is a possible plan...

Two stages set up on a Friday or Saturday and then torn down the following Saturday. The stages will have 15 targets, each requiring 2 hits and there will be a stage description.

You have to supply your own USPSA Metric targets and remove them when you are done. Targets can be bought yourself, or you can buy them from a CRCPS board member for $15/30 targets.

CRC members can bring guests, but score sheets must be verified by a CRC member (Name, member number, signature). IDPA or USPSA RO must run the timer.

For $5, shoot as many times as you want, but first run counts for score. You can enter one score per division per match, so for $30, you can shoot 12 stages.

Divisions: 1. Pistol Hi-cap (15 or more) 2. Pistol low cap (14 or less) 3. Rimfire Pistol, 4. Pistol caliber Carbine, 5. Center fire Carbine, 6. Shotgun (00 Buck 2 hits per, slugs one hit per)

Certainly open to tweaks. I know there are a lot of people who want to practice, shoot matches, but work weekends, so this is a way to provide opportunities, also at a low cost. If enough people would do it, we might run a pilot match in June or July and see how it goes.

It will be interesting to see how long the props last in that situation with random CRC Members staple targets to walls, barrels or whatever else and pretty much destroy the props.

Your ambition is admirable but I can't see it working out very well.

    Here' what I mean...

So, let's say I want to run out Tuesday morning and give it a whirl. First, I need to make sure I have or can get targets. Then, I need to contact someone who is a RO and make sure they can meet me out there as well.

Seems like quite a bit of planning and coordinating already.

Also, if any non-members wanted to shoot they would most likely have to go out with a member. Yet one more thing to coordinate with another person.

I think a better option might be to have some sort of evening weekday match. It stays light to 9:00 or later during the summer. Maybe have something similar to the Pueblo weekday matches.

One would certainly have to plan to do it in groups. The stages would be set, just sans targets. There are several clubs doing this successfully, but that is why I asked to see what the CRC members thought.

A weekday match is certainly an option, but not one I can commit to as my schedule is pretty full already. Neither option is one that is good for me, but one of my goals is to grow the competition numbers at CRC and provide as many formats and time frames as is reasonable given the distance from the metro area and without causing burn out of staff.

There are a good number of ROs, and another RO class for USPSA in a few weeks and the IDPA SO class was just a few weeks ago.

It is only Aurora members who do that.

You might have better luck with leaving "Shot Up" targets from prior matches on the bay to use for stapling up along with some tape. There are always an abundance of "Shot Up" targets from normal USPSA matches that can be reused for this kind of stage. Once again, that is if normal members don't pilfer the pile of shot up targets and then there are none to use or they get shot up on other berms and left as trash all over the place.

Personally, the risk of members leaving shot up targets as trash all over the range to get blown everywhere would be my number one issue with this type of project. The few CRC members that would benefit by shooting the stage/match would not overcome the potential eye sore that it could turn into. That would create a lot more bitching and moaning by the CRC membership than the few who actually take advantage of the stage.

Unfortunately, the majority of the time you need someone or a group of people there to "manage" the situation and keep people from doing stupid or inconsiderate stuff. This is not a surprise given the "Consumerism" mentality that most people have these days. The few bad apples will undoubtedly wreck it for the majority.

These "normal" and "random" CRC members you speak of sound like a bunch a-holes!

Test it out yourself buddy. Go to just about any "member only" range and set a piece of steel up on a bay for a week and leave it unattended. By the end of the week, if not sooner, the steel will be shot to shit by rifles or simply stolen.

Don't kill the messenger. The majority of people suck at being considerate human beings that respect other peoples stuff. Me stating that reality shouldn't be a news flash.

During the last we had to tell some members, more than once, that the steel they were shooting was sending ricochets sideways over all the berms. The second time I spelled it out that they need to change the angle of their target to stop sending rounds over everyone's heads.

I was a member at a private facility where we didn't really have those kinds of issues. The only way you could become a member was with a referral from an existing member. I think it helped keep most of the riff raff out. I know I had several friends who wanted to join but I wouldn't recommend them. Not that they weren't good friends. I just knew them well enough to know they might do some of the things Cha-lee was mentioning.

The main problem with the membership at CRC is that anyone can join. And typically there aren't many people out there at any given time so if someone is doing something shady they usually get away with it.
