The Stumps is the "Oasis of the High Desert" according the Welcome Aboard brochure my wife got from Family Services in LeJeune before we PCSed. When we arrived in town in the u-haul, she broke down and cried in the truck. I apologized and said it would only be for a couple of years. We finally left 4 1/2 years later. That green weenie seemed to have followed me, even out to the desert.

That..... is hilarious and tragic at the same time. Was she able to put a brave face on it for those 4.5 years? Did she get used to it and even start liking it, or was she counting each day until she could leave?

She counted every day. Thirty years later she still reminds me occasionally about "doing her time in the desert" for the Corps. I smile and remind her that it could have been worse, we could have gotten stuck in Yuma, AZ, and at that point she changes the conversation. Nuff said.
